Residency at Shaw Centre for Contemporary Ceramics, Medalta, Alberta, Canada
A big part of my practice over the years has been the residency. Being in a new environment, region or country where the everyday is unfamiliar and heightened is a great source of inspiration for me. My research degree at Sunderland (completed in 2010) also provided much input into the artwork I created subsequently.
In 2014 I was artist in residence at Medalta. This allowed valuable focused time away from the studio to create new work in response to the location and surrounding area. The landscapes, urban spaces, museum collections and other experiences all formed the basis of an experimental body of work. Previous trips to Alberta and research into tourism also fed into the project.
